Not an emergency service

This site is for informational and educational purposes only. It is not a substitute for official evacuation orders, fire alerts, or emergency broadcasts. Satellite fire detections have inherent latency — a fire that started in the last few hours may not yet appear on the map. Always follow the directions of local fire authorities, your county's Office of Emergency Services, state agencies such as CAL FIRE, and the National Weather Service.

Data accuracy

NASA FIRMS satellite detections can include false positives (industrial heat, gas flares, sun glint) and can miss real fires under cloud cover or between satellite overpasses. NIFC named fire data is updated as incidents are reported and may be revised. We show the data as received; we do not warrant its accuracy or completeness.

Acceptable use

You may browse, link to, and cite pages on this site freely. Automated scraping at a rate that impacts service for other users is prohibited — if you need bulk data, contact us or use the NASA FIRMS and NIFC public APIs directly. The /api/fires/active endpoint is rate-limited.

Liability

The site is provided "as is" with no warranty. Long Pattern LLC is not liable for any loss or damage resulting from use of this information. Fire is dangerous and rapidly changing — use judgment, trust your own senses, and evacuate early.
